You would think the "Beer business" is a no brainer-no doubter, a road to fast cash and a steadfast business model for success. Beer will never go out of business! Right?? As It turns out, no beer is equal. There are storms and high (suds) seas to navigate. Competition in the Craft Brewing market has exploded in the past few years and bankruptcy filings are surging as a result. 7 Mile Brewery LLC of Rio Grande, New Jersey is just one of the fun spots that has filed for protection from creditors. 7 Mile' has reported liabilities of $601,000 and assets of $135,000., mainly in the form of brewing equipment. The Craft brewer closed down its operation in May 2023 but has gone to court seeking protection after landlord threats of on-site auctions to sell the property outright. Tuckahoe Brewing Company, a personal favorite and quick 5 minute drive from home offered a cozy, friendly, low key atmosphere for meeting and greeting friends and making new ones. The staff always had a smile and offered fast service. With a wide-variety of tasty brews for every palate, (I miss my Steelmantown Porter 8oz. pour), it closed in the Fall of 2023 citing increased competition in the Craft Brew market in general. Flying Fish Brewing Company of Somerdale which pioneered the local Craft movement when it opened in 1995 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last December. Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing Company of Cherry Hill gave up the good fight closed last month after seeking Chapter 11 protection. Perhaps a full blown restaurant service would be a solution. A number of Brewing Companies thrive under this model. Maybe advertising instead of relying on word-of-mouth walkup patronage. Come to think of it, I have never heard a Brewing company commercial on radio/TV or a digital one while perusing the internet. Where are the beer drinkers young and old? They're on their phones. They are listening in the car and watching their favorite sporting events on TV. Talk to them. Reach out to them. They are out there and some are adventurous longing for a new taste from a "tank" near them. I
