RZA joins the chorus of veteran MC's who've offered their thoughts about Drake and Kendrick Lamar amid their ongoing feud.
In an interview Complex published on Wednesday, October 23, the Wu-Tang Clan founder was asked if the two rap stars will ever agree to a truce. RZA believes that they will put their past behind them one day, but it won't be anytime soon. He also identified the key difference that sets both artists apart.
"Yeah, it just takes time," RZA said. "First of all, Kendrick is the natural lyricist, and Drake is a trained lyricist."
"You could train a fighter and he could be good, then you got those natural fighters who also then go through training," he added. "So that's a different chamber there. And while Drake got bars forever, Kendrick’s bars’ potency was stronger."
RZA likened K.Dot to lyricists like Nas, Eminem and Raekwon, who will "break your s**t down to the element." Meanwhile, he recognized that Drake is a "powerful artist in our culture" who has uplifted the genre and "raised a generation." He also compared their feud to the likes of Nas vs. JAY-Z, who eventually squashed their beef, and KRS-One vs. MC Shan, who took decades to resolve their issues.
"I think [now] they can reconcile because the thing that these young brothers should recognize, and I can speak on this here in the physical form, is that as you get older, you gain more knowledge and wisdom and experience and you'd be more heedful," RZA explained. "Even [Martin Luther King Jr.] had a meeting with Malcolm X later in life. In the early days, that wasn't happening. So hopefully as they mature more as humans, they would go, 'Wow, that s**t was crazy. That s**t was fun. I ate you up, son. You know what I mean? But yo, I love that other joint. My son love your joint. My son love your joint.' That's just what it is. And here we are for the culture coming together."
RZA is one of several veterans who have weighed in on Drake following his feud with Kendrick Lamar. 50 Cent recently revealed to Billboard that he told Drake he didn't lose the battle despite the public's opinion. Meanwhile, Yasiin Bey a.k.a Mos Def previously said he considers Drake more of a pop star than a Hip-Hop artist.
