Former Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver Julian Fleming was seriously injured during an accident that killed his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, the Pennsylvania State Police Department announced via the New York Post.
Fleming, 24, was driving a Yamaha ATV with Boyd, 23, in Bradford County, Pennslyvania, when they struck a deer. Boyd, who attended the University of Alabama but was home in Pennsylvania at the time, reportedly died at the scene after suffering "extensive injuries" from the crash.
Fleming, who also lived in Pennsylvania, was reported to have received treatment at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital for serious injuries sustained in the crash. Neither individual was reported to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
PennLive initially identified one of the victims as a former college football player for the Nittany Lions and social media posts shared by Fleming and Boyd showed that they were dating.
Fleming was a five-star prospect and the No. 1 wide receiver, No. 1 player from the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 3 overall prospect for the 2020 national recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite, which averages rankings from the industry's top recruiting websites. The former Southern Columbia High School standout signed with Ohio State and recorded 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons before transferring to Penn State in 2024 and recording 14 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown.
