North Wildwood has initiated emergency repairs to address severe beach erosion. The project, costing $1.5 million, involves constructing a bulkhead near the city's beach patrol headquarters. According to Mayor Salvatore Zampirri, the bulkhead will connect to existing structures and is crucial to prevent the dune system from collapsing and water from flooding nearby streets. The repairs are expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend.

The construction, which spans from the midpoint between 12th and 13th Avenues to 15th Avenue, is a response to recent storms and tidal events that have damaged the beach berm and dune system. The city has received all necessary permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to proceed with the 752-foot bulkhead extension. During the construction period, the beachfront bike path from 12th to 15th Avenue may be closed at times.

The project aims to bolster North Wildwood's ongoing shore protection efforts and safeguard city infrastructure. Beach access over the dune and bulkhead will be reinstated at each street end once the installation is complete. For more details, residents can contact the city at (609) 522-6464.
