Ariana Grande is explaining the backstory behind her fashion during one of her most memorable eras.
The Eternal Sunshine singer, 32, looked back on some of the big fashion moments from her career for a recent installment of Vogue's Life in Looks, including the iconic oversized sweatshirt and tall boot combo she was known to rock in 2018, per People.
According to Grande, the comfy but cute look was a result of her trying to "hide away" and process a "very strange" period of her life. The year prior, she faced an immense tragedy when a bomber killed 22 people and injured hundreds more at her concert in Manchester, England, an incident that has caused her post-traumatic stress and anxiety.

"This was a very strange time in my life, I was processing a lot. I always wanted to hide away in something really cozy, but I remember that the boots still made me feel c---," she said. "I genuinely at the time did not have the mental energy to consider clothing. So the easiest thing for me was to throw on a sweatshirt and a c---y boot and that was how it happened."
The Wicked actress also recently opened up about how her ex-boyfriend and late rapper Mac Miller helped her find her personal style while coming into her own as an artist.
