Jennifer Garner is providing a rare look into her co-parenting dynamic with ex-husband Ben Affleck.
In a new interview with Bustle published Tuesday (February 24), the Last Thing He Told Me actress opened up about raising her children in "two separate households" following her split from the Accountant actor, per E! News. Garner and Affleck were married for 10 years before separating in 2015 and divorcing three years later. They share three children: Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.
"I become mom and dad; he becomes dad and mom," she said. "You kind of can't help it, right? Because you don't have the benefit of both sides of the yin and yang being in the same house. And so you have to have a bit of both in the way that you parent."
She continued, "There's a little bit of loss in that, but there's also something gained in that."
In January, Garner spoke to Marie Claire UK about the "hard" split from her ex while navigating the "gossip" and public opinion about the end of her marriage.
"You have to be smart about what you can and can't handle, and I could not handle what was out there," she said. "But what was out there was not what was hard. The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard."
